Data Matters with Fathom! Dynamic Statistics™ software

Activity 5.1

Your task for this project is to find the mean and median of at least two of the number-line observations in the data on the representative U.S. sample, then note whether those attributes are skewed, and if they are, which way they are skewed.

Open RepUSSampleMarch2001.ftm.

To get the mean, select Analyze, Estimate Parameters. Then select Empty Estimate, Estimate Mean. Drag the attribute onto Attribute (continuous): <unassigned>.

To get the median, select the attribute Data, then select Sort Ascending. Scroll down to the 25,000th case. The median is the mean of the 25,000th and 25,001st value.
