Using the Chart Editor in SPSS Release 12 to Change the Number of Subintervals.

The method described in the SPSS Companion Manual for using the Chart Editor to change the number of subintervals applies to SPSS Release 11.  If you are using Release 12 there appear to be two different types of Chart Editor depending on which version of Release 12 you have.  Check to see which one you have.  Use the following procedure to use the Chart Editor to change the number of subintervals in a histogram.

  1. Double click the histogram to be altered to open the Chart Editor.

  2. Click on the histogram bars.  They will now be outlined in blue.

  3. In one version of Release 12 Select Edit > Properties to open the following dialogue box.

  4. In another version of Release 12 select Edit > Select X Axis and click the Histogram options tab to bring up the dialogue box shown above.

  5. Under Histogram Options in the Bin Sizes area check Custom and Number of Intervals.

  6. Type the desired number of subintervals, click Apply, followed by Close.

  7. Close the Chart Editor window.
